Known as “America’s Dairyland”, Wisconsin ranks No. 1 in the U.S. for cheese production and No. 2 for milk. Dairy farming provides the leading agricultural activity in Wisconsin. In terms of revenue generated, Wisconsin’s top five agriculture products are dairy products, beef cattle and calves, corn for grain, greenhouse and nursery products, and soybeans.
Another agriculture trend that has seen significant growth in the Upper Midwest is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). One of the first Wisconsin CSA projects began in western Wisconsin in 1988. Today there are more than 60 Wisconsin CSA farms providing area residents with fresh foods, according to the FairShare CSA Coalition.
