Sales of existing homes in Wisconsin grew by more than 11 percent in 2015, the strongest year since 2005, according to the Wisconsin Realtors Association as reported by the La Crosse Tribune. The statewide total home sales for 2015 was 76,693 compared to 67,950 sales in 2014. La Crosse County increased their 2015 home sales by more than 10 percent despite a weak December. La Crosse County posted 1,432 sales this past year. The median price of homes sold was $154,700, up 2.5 from 2014. The statewide median was up 5.1 percent over 2014 at $155,500. Chuck Olson, president of the La Crosse Area Realtors Association and LADCO board member, stated, “Commercial real estate – which is not reflected in the home sales data – has been strong and considered a good sign for the overall local market.” Olson also mentioned that builders have been far more conservative since the housing crisis, and the lack of new housing may result in more homeowners staying put.
